“So what do you actually do?”

During my recent trip home, I found myself answering the same few questions around my job and career. It made me realise how much my work has evolved over the years and how many different hats I’ve worn along the way.

If you’re curious, here’s a few questions answered.

“Why did you stop working as a chiropractor?”

The short answer is that I stopped due to being pregnant: at 6 months pregnant, I felt I wanted to stop because I couldn’t deliver the level of care I wanted to provide.

Since the birth of my son, I’ve been focusing primarily on my work as a psychotherapeutic counsellor. Becoming a mother shifted many aspects of my life and career, and I chose to follow the path that felt most sustainable and meaningful during this season.

More recently, I’ve started working with people’s bodies again through massage and medical acupuncture. In many ways, it was a way of testing the water because I genuinely missed that hands-on aspect of my work. Reconnecting with body-based therapies has reminded me how much I value supporting people through both physical and emotional healing.

“Do you still teach yoga?”

At the moment, I don’t teach any public yoga classes. The realities of life as a mum mean that regular class teaching doesn’t fit easily into my schedule right now.

My relationship with yoga has also changed over the years. My personal practice looks very different from what it once did, and I’m still exploring how I might share this newer, more integrated version of yoga when the time feels right.

That said, yoga remains a central part of my work. I regularly incorporate yoga philosophy, somatic practices, mindfulness, and nervous system awareness into my psychotherapy sessions. The teachings continue to influence how I support clients, even if I’m no longer teaching in a traditional studio setting.

“Are you a psychologist now?”

No, I’m a psychotherapeutic counsellor.

I am currently undertaking a Master’s degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling Practice to continue deepening my knowledge and skills. Ongoing learning is incredibly important to me, and I feel privileged to be able to combine academic study with the insights that come from working closely with clients every day.

“What is your area of expertise?”

I don’t consider myself an expert.

However, I have been specialising in supporting people with trauma and PTSD symptoms, as many of the people who come through my door are carrying significant pain. I have completed a Certificate in Post Traumatic Stress Studies with Besser Van del Kolk, and I will soon begin EMDR training to add more skills in the management of trauma and PTSD.

I don’t have all the answers, but I am to create a space where people can safely explore their experiences, make sense of what they’ve been carrying, and begin moving towards healing and change.

A Career of Evolving

Although it hasn’t always been plain sailing, I’m incredibly grateful for the ability to adapt and evolve through different stages of life.

From chiropractic care to yoga teaching, from bodywork to psychotherapy, each chapter has taught me something valuable. Rather than seeing these different roles as separate careers, I increasingly see them as different expressions of the same intention: helping people reconnect with themselves and find a greater sense of wellbeing.

I’m excited to see where this next chapter leads.
